The Community Advocacy & Legal Centre (CALC) is a non-profit community legal clinic that provides free legal services to low-income individuals in our service area. We provide services from our main office in Belleville, Ontario and satellite offices. Our work includes casework, public legal education, law reform and community development in areas of clinic practice including income maintenance, housing and employment.
We are hiring a Community Developer. This is a full-time contract position, ending March 2027 (with the possibility of extension).
The Community Developer will:
· develop priorities, implement, and coordinate our community initiatives in collaboration with legal clinic staff and community partners
· build and maintain relationships with community organizations, service providers, other community legal clinics, and other legal organizations
· develop, design and present and/or facilitate legal education workshops
· develop written materials and social media resources
· assist with grant applications and reporting on community development projects
· support law reform, community organizing activities
Candidates will have:
· experience working in a community-based, non-profit or social justice setting (preferably focused on low-income or equity-seeking groups)
· proven community development experience
· ability to build and maintain relationships with other community agencies
· strong public speaking and facilitation skills
· proficiency with social media platforms and graphic design tools such as Canva
· ability to work collaboratively in a small team environment & as a self-starter
· awareness of issues faced by rural and remote communities
· a valid driver’s license, as travel within our catchment area will be required
· experience with grant writing is an asset
· familiarity with the community organizations in our service area is an asset
· a college diploma or university degree in a relevant field is an asset
