Network Cabling, Security, Access Control and CCTV Systems Cost Estimator
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly organized Cost Estimator to work closely with our sales department to design solutions and prepare accurate estimates for security, access control, CCTV, structured cabling, Wi-Fi and audiovisual systems.
This is a full-time, in-office position based on a 40.5-hour work week, Monday through Friday. This is not a remote or hybrid position.
Direct experience in the low-voltage or security industry is not required. We welcome applicants with transferable experience in estimating, quoting, pricing, cost analysis or project coordination from industries such as construction, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, engineering, telecommunications or other related fields.
Training on our products, systems and industry-specific requirements will be provided.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review project drawings, specifications and customer requirements.
- Design systems and prepare accurate, detailed estimates that meet project functionality and performance requirements.
- Develop material lists, labour estimates, pricing and project proposals.
- Request and review pricing from vendors, suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
- Maintain current information on material, equipment and labour costs.
- Identify missing information, potential project issues and cost-saving opportunities.
- Work closely with the sales department to develop practical and competitive solutions for customers.
- Coordinate with customers, suppliers, contractors and co-workers to obtain the information required to complete estimates.
- Manage multiple estimates, projects, priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Communicate project status, changes and outstanding requirements to the appropriate team members.
- Complete accurate estimates while meeting challenging deadlines.
- Maintain organized and complete project documentation.
Qualifications and Skills
- Previous experience in estimating, quoting, pricing, cost analysis or project coordination is preferred.
- Relevant experience may come from construction, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, engineering, telecommunications or another related industry.
- Direct experience with structured cabling, access control, CCTV, security or other low-voltage systems is an asset but is not required.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines at the same time.
- Strong attention to detail and confidence working with measurements, quantities, pricing and technical information.
- Strong professional written and spoken English is required.
- Able to understand project specifications and communicate clearly with customers, vendors, contractors and co-workers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email and general computer use.
- Basic knowledge of computer networking is an asset.
- Able and willing to learn the standards, design principles and installation requirements associated with structured cabling, access control, IP CCTV, intrusion alarm, Wi-Fi, audiovisual and other low-voltage systems.
- Able to identify, analyze and solve problems efficiently.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
- Able to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
- Dependable and committed to keeping others informed about work progress, changes and possible delays.
