The Little Butcher is currently looking for an employee who is passionate about local, healthy, and sustainable food. We are the only butcher shop in the Tri-cities doing nose-to-tail butchery and would like to find people who share our passion for the industry and who are eager to continue learning! We choose to source from independent, local farmers raising their animals on pasture because we believe in supporting our local business community!
Over the last few years we have created a 2 year apprentice program. This job is for an individual who is committed and eager to learn the ins and outs of butchery.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- Opening shifts: refreshing and filling our fresh display case with a wide variety of beef, pork, lamb, chicken, and more.
- Breakdowns of whole animals, boning and trimming - Second Year
- Portioning a variety of cuts
- Stringing/tying roasts
- Sausage making – evening shifts are scheduled twice per week
- Help with daily to do list creation
- Receiving and putting away products
- Bandsaw work - Second Year
- Grinder work
- Filling specialty/custom orders
- Cooking meat products
- Clean up of all heavy equipment, work tables and usual clean up tasks such as dishes, sweeping, mopping and garbage removal.
- All of our employees serve customers and handle cash.
Requirements:
- Heavy lifting of boxes and carcasses up to 60lbs.
- Standing for 10 hours or more, Meat Cutters work 4 x 10 hour shifts.
- Food Safe Certification is an asset.
- Food Industry experience of 2 years minimum, with strong knife skills.
- Availability minimum 3 week days and Saturday. Closed Sunday, Monday and most Stat Holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas schedules may include Sunday/ Monday.
