The Health and Safety Advisor partners closely with operations to support the safe, reliable execution of work across field sites. This role places a strong emphasis on building and sustaining a positive safety culture by engaging employees and contractors in safe work practices and shared accountability. The Health and Safety Advisor supports the effective implementation and ongoing maintenance of the Safety Management System by working alongside operations to ensure processes are practical, understood, and consistently applied. Through regular field presence, the role develops a strong understanding of site operations, equipment, and procedures, identifying opportunities to strengthen safety practices and enhance overall performance.

By partnering directly with field teams, the role helps prevent incidents, protect people, and maintain regulatory compliance, while also improving operational efficiency and reliability. A strong safety culture not only safeguards employees and contractors but also strengthens trust with stakeholders and the communities in which we operate. Through continuous improvement, practical support, and visible leadership in the field, this role contributes to both business performance and the well-being of our people.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide guidance, coaching, and support to operations staff on leading and lagging indicators and reporting.
- Review and audit of safety inspections completed by Operations to ensure quality and consistency.
- Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) activities.
- Assist in the development, review and continuous improvement of Safe Work Practices, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Codes of Practice (COPs).
- Partner with operations to ensure safe work permits (including hot work and confined space) are properly issued, received and closed.
- Support the administration and management of safety orientations.
- Confirm site training requirements, including ticket validation.
- Work with operations to audit the Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) system, ensuring procedures and documentation meet standards.
- Assist in developing and implementing Site Specific Safety Plans.
- Support the establishment and maintenance of control processes aligned with regulatory and company expectations, including:
- Supporting safety management system assessments.
- Supporting risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Participating in incident investigations and follow-ups.
- Developing and sharing safety lessons learned across the organization.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve safety, health, security and emergency preparedness.
- Act as the on-site liaison between operations and the Corporate Safety (and Construction Safety, when required), ensuring effective communication of concerns, trends, safety performance and corrective actions.
- Assess compliance with the applicable safety codes, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in investigations of safety, environmental and regulatory incidents to improve outcomes and ensure compliance.
- Lead or support safety meetings and reporting (e.g., inspections, incident reports, tailgates, JHSC, and monthly meetings), encouraging active participation.
- Ensure safety concerns are communicated, addressed, and appropriately signed off, including sharing learnings where applicable.
- Conduct regular field inspections and walkabouts to ensure compliance with legislation and company standards.
- Support the effective implementation of the Safety Management System.
- Support operations and functional leaders in achieving corporate safety initiatives.
- Assist operations with pre-job and ongoing safety meetings, providing guidance on structure and content.
- Support the maintenance of emergency response plans, standards, procedures, and site-specific work plans.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- This position is field-based and involves work at remote site and project locations.
- Travel is required, and there may be a need for occasional field accommodations.
- Comfortable working across operating locations, including travel (driving), and remote site conditions.
- This is a long-term, community-based role requiring the successful candidate to reside in the Grande Prairie region (or relocate with support provided). The position is intended for an individual seeking to grow with the organization and build out the safety program over time; it is not suited to contractors or those primarily interested in short-term or project-based work.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Occupational Health & Safety Certificate, NCSO, and/or
- Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) and/or Canadian Registered Safety Professional Designation (CRSP) is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and the ability to provide a driver’s abstract that is acceptable to the company’s standards, are required.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated experience with safety management systems and digital tools for reporting, tracking, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to leverage generative artificial intelligence tools ethically and responsibly to enhance productivity, creativity, and overall efficiency.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation, regulations, and codes and their application in field environments.
- Strong understanding of oil and gas facility and pipeline construction and operations.
- Experience with gas processing plants is a key asset.
