Central Utility Services is recruiting a full-time Health & Safety Manager. This position reports to multiple locations in Duncan and Malahat, BC. If you are looking for a new challenge – are up to making a difference everyday - are willing to share, learn and grow, this is a great opportunity in a dynamic team environment!
Why this role is different
You won't be handed a task list, you'll write it. You'll build your own plans and priorities on a daily, weekly, and annual basis ~ bring them to your leadership team for a quick yes or no ~ and execute. If you're an experienced safety professional who wants the independence to run a program, set up systems, and take charge, this is that opportunity.
You'll split your time between our Duncan operations and our Malahat site, working alongside management and operational staff in both unionized and non-unionized environments.
What you'll do
- Own and execute day-to-day delivery of our OHS program across all Central Utility Services
- Recommend and implement improvements as they're approved
- Build and maintain the annual health & safety plan, with clear priorities and timelines including successfully obtaining annual safety compliance certification for all companies including Safecontractor, COR and ISN.
- Lead and complete workplace audits and investigations of safety concerns, incidents, and accidents, and ensure timely correction of unsafe conditions
- Own incident reporting end to end — writing incident reports, conducting investigations, and completing all required WorkSafeBC reporting and follow-up documentation
- Conduct workplace inspections of equipment, materials, and production process areas
- Identify and report on trends in safety-related incidents as you are also a key member of the JHSC
- Deliver and continuously improve health & safety programs, including standard operating procedures, policies, and training that mitigate risk and build a positive safety culture
- Provide in house and schedule external ongoing education to employees on workplace safety while tracking all training in our safety management system
- Vet third-party contractors for compliance, including safety, insurance, procedures, and work history
- Liaise with the Union Safety Rep to keep the health & safety function consistent across all our entities
What you bring
- 5+ years of health & safety experience in an industrial environment, with at least some of that running or significantly shaping a safety program
- A degree or diploma in occupational health and safety (an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered)
- CRSP designation through the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals
- Experience working with both unionized and non-unionized workforces
- Working knowledge of WorkSafeBC reporting and claims requirements
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office; experience with Procore is an asset
- A valid driver's licence, regular travel between our Duncan and Malahat sites is part of the job
Only those being considered for an interview will be contacted.
