Special Alloy Fabricators Ltd. (SAF) is a 100% Canadian-owned company specializing in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of high-performance valves and flow equipment. Founded in 1989, SAF operates a fabrication facility in Delta, British Columbia, and maintains sales and engineering in Edmonton, Alberta.
The Manual Machinist is a key member of the team, relied upon for the machining and production of products and product components. Responsible for paying close attention to detail, safe execution of tasks, and communicating with the team. This role is required to meet deadlines, prioritize work, coordinate with other workers and troubleshoot as required.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Operation of manual lathe, drilling and milling machines
- Operation of forklifts and overhead cranes
- Read detailed construction/machining shop drawings
- Maintain quality control
- Maintain ticket or professional certifications as required
- May be required to work the afternoon shift from 2:30 pm to 10:00 pm
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Post-secondary training or certification in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field is preferred
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in manual machining or a similar manufacturing role
- Experience operating manual lathes, mills, and drill presses is required
- Certification or demonstrated competency in operating forklift and overhead cranes preferred
- Familiarity with precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges)

Working Conditions:
- Physical Requirements – Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs. regularly. Standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for assembly tasks. Ability to operate heavy equipment safely (after training/certification). Visual and auditory acuity to work safely in a production environment. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
- Environment – Full-time, on-site role in a production shop environment. Fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines and shifting priorities. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and departments. Exposure to loud noise, dust, fumes, oils, and varying temperatures.
- Hours –Day Shift: Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM–3:00 PM.
Afternoon Shift: May be required (2:30 PM–10:00 PM) based on production demand.
Compensation to include salary, benefits and a deferred-profit-sharing plan.
Actual compensation will be based on the candidate’s experience, skill set, and internal equity considerations.
