Welder – 6G SMAW

Position: Welder – 6G SMAW
This is a current vacancy.
Please note: Successful applicants must be able to successfully complete and pass a 6G SMAW weld test as part of the hiring process.
Primary Responsibilities
- Interact with lead hands, supervisors, and managers to help meet plant SAFETY, QUALITY, and PRODUCTION goals.
- Clean and prepare surfaces to be welded, as required.
- Operate air carbon arc equipment for weld preparation.
- Set machines and perform a wide variety of manual welding in all positions, including GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW, while being qualified to meet the specifications set forth in the A.S.M.E. Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section IX, as amended, and in accordance with established welding procedures.
- Perform GMAW, SAW, FCAW, and semi-automatic and automatic welding as required.
- Perform GTAW automatic welding as required.
- Perform oxy-acetylene welding as required.
- Set up, operate, and adjust fin-to-tube and fin-to-fin welding machines and sub-arc welding machines, controlling machine speed, wire feed, and heat as required.
- Preheat, post-heat, clean, and grind welded joints.
- Handle materials in the work area using hoists, rolls, and other material-handling equipment.
- Exercise all required safety precautions.
- Prepare work for N.D.T. and/or inspection.
- Operate the main stress-relieve furnace.
- Participate in continual improvement initiatives.
- Participate in the training of junior team members.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and applicable safety and quality requirements.
Qualifications
- Must be able to successfully pass a 6G SMAW weld test.
- M.E. or CWB certifications required.
- Competent in blueprint reading.
- Knowledge of fitting and welding in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
- 3–5 years of related welding experience.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Knowledge of quality assurance systems and procedures.
- Crane and lifting device experience.
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Welding school/college diploma is an asset.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in an industrial manufacturing environment.
