Job description:
Custom Vac offers custom-built industrial vacuum equipment manufactured at our modern facility located in Nisku, Alberta. Journeyperson B Pressure welders are a critical part of our manufacturing teams who support skillful Vacuum truck fabrication and assembly of vac truck components. Our talented welders are integral to the production of industry‑leading trucks, helping ensure every customer receives a best‑in‑class product.

Responsibilities
Job Planning and Execution
- Reads and interprets blueprints, specifications and instructions and be aware of opportunities to improve designs or assembly processes.
- Fits and welds pieces to specific requirements in the fabrication process
- Assembles and repairs welds on final truck assembly
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment, set up and technique based on build specifications
- Align components using Straightedge, Combination square, etc. and clamp pieces
- Tact welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment
Maintenance
- Cleans and services equipment
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety, including replacing damaged or worm components
Qualifications
Education
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
- Journeyman Welder or Year 2-3 apprentice welder
- Related trades courses are considered an asset
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of welding experience
- Journeyman welder with B Pressure Certification
- Prior experience with tanks or vessels is an asset
Competencies (skills, abilities, knowledge)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, and layout of work
- Ability to read and understand the imperial system of measurement
- Comfortable working in varying environments including stationary weld station and on and around heavy equipment; able to comfortably lift up to 50 lbs.
- Proficient in the use of Oxy/fuel cutting equipment, electric welding machines
- Proficient in the use of GMAW, FCAW, SMAW welding processes and procedures
- Take pride in delivering a quality customer product
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Comfortable working in confined workspaces
- Strong attention to detail required, with the ability to look ahead in the work process
- Ability to rapidly shift tasks to meet changing priorities
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to practice safe work practices and properly use PPE
