Our client, a civil contractor in the Greater Vancouver Area, specializes in underground wet utilities (water, sanitary, storm), deep excavations, and complex urban infrastructure projects. They are seeking a General Superintendent to oversee multiple projects and provide leadership to Site Superintendents, Forepersons, and field teams across the Lower Mainland.
- Provide overall leadership and oversight for multiple underground utility projects, ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable execution.
- Mentor, support, and manage Site Superintendents and Forepersons, ensuring consistent field leadership and company standards across all projects.
- Work closely with Project Managers to develop project execution plans, manpower strategies, schedules, and resource allocations.
- Coordinate labour, equipment, subcontractors, and materials across multiple active projects to maximize productivity and meet project milestones.
- Monitor project performance, schedules, budgets, productivity, and quality, proactively resolving issues before they impact delivery.
- Lead pre-construction planning, site mobilization, shutdown planning, and major project milestones.
- Ensure all work complies with MMCD specifications, municipal standards, contract requirements, and company quality expectations.
- Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations, company safety programs, environmental requirements, and quality control procedures.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, consultants, municipal inspectors, and subcontractors.
- Assist with change management, claims, procurement strategies, and operational planning alongside the Operations and Project Management teams.
- Participate in recruiting, training, mentoring, and performance management of field personnel to support long-term growth.
- 10+ years of experience in underground civil construction, including significant experience as a Superintendent or General Superintendent.
- Proven experience overseeing multiple municipal underground utility projects simultaneously.
- Strong knowledge of MMCD specifications, municipal standards, and permitting processes throughout the Lower Mainland.
- Extensive experience with watermain, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, force main, deep excavation, shoring, dewatering, road restoration, and complex urban construction.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multiple Site Superintendents, Forepersons, and field crews while maintaining high productivity and safety standards.
- Strong understanding of project scheduling, resource planning, budgeting, and production tracking.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills with clients, consultants, municipalities, and internal teams.
- Valid BC driver's licence with the ability to travel between project sites throughout the Lower Mainland.
- Formal education is considered an asset but is not required; extensive field leadership experience is the priority.
- Competitive base salary of $170.000-210.000/year with annual performance reviews.
