Reports directly to: Production Line Foreman
Job Purpose: The Equipment Operator will work alongside the Production Line Foreman and other crew members to efficiently move internationally exportable forage products throughout the facility. The Loader Operator will perform basic machine maintenance and quality checks to ensure the highest standards of exportable goods are achieved. Workers will operate equipment and perform tasks most safely and effectively possible.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains strong communication with Production Line Foreman, Mechanics, and Administration regarding shift work tasks.
- Transports raw materials, finished products and packaging materials from sheds and throughout the warehouse with a front end skid steer.
- Works as a team to process and press custom bales according to work orders.
- Quality control: assuring products are to the highest standards by complying with the Quality Control System Manual and CFIA requirements.
- Ensures machines and equipment are working properly at the start of the shift, communicating with mechanical team of any issues.
- Performs routine cleaning of work areas and equipment when required.
- Maintains a safe work environment by keeping the work area, yard, shed, machines, and equipment clean.
- Maintains inventory controls by collecting and completing hay location orders/reports, ensuring Quality Control by correctly tagging inventory.
- Demonstrates a positive attitude to ensuring operations are performed to the highest level of safety, suggests improvements, and reports any near misses, incidents, and accidents immediately to Production Line Foreman.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Performs other tasks as needed or requested by supervisor and management.
- Adheres to all company policies and procedures and creates a safe and supportive work environment for all team members.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High School Diploma preferred.
- Forklift and skid steer operator tickets are required.
- Class Five Driver's License, and a Clear Driver's Abstract.
- Standard First Aid.
- Knowledge or Experience in certified export quality hay production, timothy and alfalfa would be an asset.
- Experience with export forage production Quality Assurance Principles will be an asset.
- Teamwork, Reliable, and dependable.
- Ability to facilitate complex problem solving through good organization, management skill, written and verbal communication.
Working Conditions:
- Availability required to work evenings, nights & weekends on a rotating shift schedule.
- Willingness to work over time outside of a regular work hours if required.
- This role is onsite and located in a rural area, personal and reliable transportation is required to and from the plant.
- Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and adverse weather conditions.
- Exposure to high levels of hay dust may aggravate allergies and asthma.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time doing repetitive work.
- Good vision, hearing, and smell needed.
Physical and Work Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended amounts of time.
- Ability to lift up to one hundred (100) pounds.
- Required to wear steel toe boots and coveralls.
- Required to wear safety mask at all times when in the processing plant.
