Our client is a well-established GTA business seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller to take ownership of its accounting and financial operations. This is an important leadership role for someone who enjoys being close to the business, leading a small team and providing accurate, timely financial insight to ownership and management.
- Lead the full accounting cycle, including AR, AP, GL, month-end and year-end close.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, analysis, reporting and supporting schedules.
- Oversee cash management, banking, payroll and benefits administration.
- Manage vendor rebates, incentive programs and related reconciliations.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure regulatory compliance, including HST, WSIB, EHT and CRA requirements.
- Support annual audits and year-end financial reporting.
- Partner with sales and operational teams on financial and system-related matters.
- Act as the primary accounting resource for the company’s STORIS ERP/POS environment.
- Lead and develop a team of 5.
- CPA designation required with 5+ years of senior accounting experience up to mid-size private companies.
- Strong full-cycle accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Retail experience and STORIS knowledge are strong assets.
- Advanced Excel skills, including automation.
- Strong understanding of payroll, cash management, reconciliations and internal controls.
- Hands-on, organized and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
- Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality and accountability.
