SolidWorks 3D Designer – Piping, Routing & Weldments
Location: Edmonton Area
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Experience Level: Junior to Intermediate
Salary: $60,000–$105,000 per year, based on experience
About the Role
Flowpoint Environmental Systems is seeking a detail-oriented SolidWorks 3D Designer to join our mechanical design team. We design and fabricate custom water and wastewater treatment systems, including skid-mounted equipment and packaged buildings.
This role is suited to a designer with solid mechanical aptitude and practical SolidWorks experience, particularly with Routing and Weldments. You will work alongside engineers, designers, and manufacturing personnel to develop accurate, complete, and manufacturable system designs.
What You’ll Do
- Create and revise 3D models, assemblies, and fabrication drawings using SolidWorks.
- Develop piping, tubing, structural steel, and equipment layouts using SolidWorks Routing and Weldments.
- Produce clear, accurate manufacturing drawings, including weldment cut lists, BOMs, and assembly details.
- Collaborate with engineers, manufacturing, procurement, and other designers to develop complete system designs.
- Review CAD models and drawings for accuracy, manufacturability, and compliance with project requirements and internal standards.
- Identify design conflicts and develop practical, manufacturable solutions.
- Maintain organized project documentation, revisions, and drawing updates.
- Support project design from concept through fabrication, testing, and final as-built documentation.
What We’re Looking For
Required
- Minimum two years of professional SolidWorks design experience.
- Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks, including practical experience with Routing and Weldments.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of fabrication, piping systems, and general design principles.
- Ability to produce accurate, detailed drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Assets
- Diploma or degree in Engineering Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience designing custom industrial equipment, skids, packaged systems, or structural steel assemblies.
- Familiarity with PDF markup and review software.
- Experience with photorealistic renderings, animations, or presentation-quality SolidWorks visuals.
- Experience in a project-based manufacturing or engineered-to-order environment.
Please Do Not Apply If
- You do not have practical SolidWorks experience with both Routing and Weldments.
- You are looking for a position focused primarily on basic drafting, repetitive production drawings, or simple part modelling.
- You are not comfortable working on custom, one-off engineered systems with changing project requirements.
- You cannot consistently produce accurate, organized work while managing multiple project priorities.
- You are not comfortable taking responsibility for the quality and completeness of your models and drawings.
Work Environment
- Collaborative, hands-on environment with direct interaction between engineering and manufacturing.
- Diverse custom projects rather than repetitive production design.
- Opportunity to develop designs from early concepts through fabrication and completed systems.
- Fast-paced environment where accuracy, efficiency, and practical design judgment matter.
