Summary
SPG Contracting / Southport Group is looking for an entry-level Project Technology and Systems Coordinator to support residential and commercial renovation projects across the GTA.
This role is ideal for someone with a background in electronics, electrical systems, automation, low-voltage systems, smart-home technology, controls, AV/data systems, or technical project coordination.
The successful candidate will assist with planning, organizing, documenting, and coordinating technical systems on renovation projects. This includes lighting, smart-home systems, low-voltage wiring, AV/data, security, sensors, access control, appliance requirements, and technical handover packages.
This is not an electrician position. Regulated electrical work will be completed by licensed electrical contractors where required. This role focuses on planning, coordination, documentation, quality control, and communication between clients, trades, suppliers, and the SPG project team.
Duties
- Assist with pre-construction planning and site measurements
- Review drawings, layouts, appliance specs, lighting plans, and technical requirements
- Help coordinate lighting layouts, switch locations, LED drivers, smart devices, AV/data, cameras, security, sensors, and low-voltage rough-ins
- Prepare site checklists, photo logs, technical notes, and project documentation
- Communicate with electricians, millworkers, plumbers, HVAC technicians, suppliers, property managers, and clients
- Track technical deficiencies and follow up until completed
- Help ensure rough-ins are planned before drywall, tile, ceilings, and millwork are completed
- Assist with client handover packages, manuals, warranties, and as-built notes
- Support estimating and planning for smart-home, lighting, AV/data, security, and low-voltage upgrade packages
- Identify missing details, site conflicts, and coordination issues before they become costly problems
- Attend site visits across the GTA as required
- Support the project manager and site team with technical coordination and documentation
Skills and Qualifications
- Education or experience in electronics, electrical systems, automation, controls, low-voltage systems, smart-home technology, AV/data, or a related technical field
- Strong interest in residential and commercial construction
- Ability to read technical manuals, product specifications, drawings, diagrams, and installation requirements
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to document site information clearly
- Comfortable using a phone, tablet, or laptop for photos, checklists, drawings, email, and project tracking
- Strong communication skills with trades, suppliers, clients, and team members
- Willingness to learn Ontario construction processes, condo rules, site safety, and project coordination
- Ability to visit active construction sites across the GTA
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle is preferred
- Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, Bluebeam, Excel, Google Drive, Monday.com, Buildertrend, JobTread, or similar tools is an asset
- Residential or commercial construction experience is an asset
- Smart-home, AV, security, access control, data, lighting, or low-voltage experience is an asset
- Spanish-speaking ability is considered an asset
Compensation
Starting salary range is $50,000–$58,000 per year, based on experience.
This is an entry-level role with room to grow. A formal performance and wage review may be completed after 90 days based on reliability, communication, technical ability, construction knowledge, and overall performance.
Pay: $49,155.06-$58,000.00 per year
