About Us
At Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides (LFCDG), we help people with disabilities live more independent lives by providing them with a Dog Guide at no cost. We are proud to be the only school in Canada offering seven distinct Dog Guide programs. Our operations span two locations: Oakville, ON, and Breslau, ON.
The Opportunity
Dog Care & Welfare Attendants play a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of all dogs in our care. This is a hands-on, physically active role that involves cleaning kennels, monitoring dogs for medical or behavioural changes, and supporting our team in delivering the highest standard of canine welfare.
The position requires standing, lifting, bending, and working in all weather conditions. You’ll work both independently and collaboratively, fostering a positive and supportive team environment. For those passionate about animal care, there’s potential to grow into roles within Canine Welfare, the Puppy Nursery, or even Dog Guide training.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily care to dogs, ensuring all welfare standards are met.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kennel environment.
- Handle dogs humanely and efficiently, following LIMA principles and interpreting canine body language.
- Administer medications (oral and topical) and assist with veterinary care as needed.
- Work independently while maintaining open communication with team members and other departments.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with staff, volunteers, clients, and the public.
- Identify opportunities to improve department efficiency and quality.
- Share responsibilities across the team to ensure all tasks are completed.
- Support knowledge-sharing and collaboration across LFCDG.
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary training in animal care, veterinary technology, or grooming is an asset.
- Experience working with animals in a professional setting preferred; Fear Free Certification an asset.
- Comfortable working in a busy and noisy environment (up to 100 decibels, hearing protection provided).
- Positive attitude with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and comfortable learning new software.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Valid G driver’s licence with a clean abstract and reliable transportation.
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check required.
