This is a full-time position (40 hours per week), scheduled Sunday through Thursday, typically from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM. While shifts are generally consistent, flexibility is required as days and hours will vary to cover team members on leave and vacation. Candidates must be comfortable with a schedule that is subject to change based on kitchen needs. Comprehensive benefits after six months of employment.
You will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being of our residents by preparing nutritious and wholesome meals. In this crucial position, you will be responsible for cooking, meal planning, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. Your role will contribute directly to fostering a sense of community and providing essential support to individuals facing homelessness.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare and cook complete meals or individual meals, ensuring adherence to residents' dietary needs and food safety practices;

Collaborate with the Food Service Manager (FSM) to plan balanced, nutritious, and resource-conscious menus, demonstrating creativity and adaptability in recipe development to maximize flavour and minimize waste;

Maintain kitchen cleanliness, including dishwashing, equipment sanitization, waste disposal, and adherence to health and safety regulations;

Maintain records related to kitchen operations, including inventory, supplies, food production, and volunteer schedules;

Plan menus, determine food portions and requirements, estimate costs, monitor and order supplies, and ensure consistent food quality, portion control, and presentation for residents and the community;

Perform other related duties as required.
Position Requirements

Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in a commercial kitchen or equivalent formal culinary training;

Prior experience in diverse culinary environments, including food trucks, catering, banquet preparation, and large-scale service operations, is highly desirable.

Valid FOODSAFE Level 1 certification (or equivalent);

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Teams, and other relevant platforms;

Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as overtime when needed;

Strong communication, organizational skills, and record-keeping abilities;

Ability to lead and work effectively with volunteers;

Valid class 5 driver's license with a clean driving abstract and willingness to drive the KGM food truck;

This position requires a Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector).
