Reporting to the Seed Preparation Supervisor, the Planting Technician is a multi-faceted role responsible for sample entry, seed planting, lab testing and other lab-related activities. The successful candidate will support laboratory operations, ensure accurate and timely testing, and provide professional service and support to clients.
Key Responsibilities
Occupational Health & Safety
- Follow and promote all 20/20 Seed Labs Inc. health and safety policies, procedures and protocols.
- Maintain a safe, clean and organized work environment and promptly report hazards, incidents and urgent situations.
- Participate in emergency response procedures and support a strong safety culture within the team.
Planting Responsibilities
- Prepare and plant samples for germination, vigour, herbicide tolerance and other seed tests, including preparation of testing media and solutions.
- Conduct advisory testing such as moisture, TKW and green seed, and accurately record results in the database
- Manage sample storage, filing and disposal while maintaining clean and organized planting and laboratory areas.
- Wash dishes, clean lab supplies and perform other lab maintenance activities as required.
Sample Entry and Preparation Responsibilities
- Receive, organize and process samples according to sample type, client, department and testing priority.
- Enter customer information into the database, create customers and follow internal procedures
- Prepare samples for testing by taking representative subsamples, organizing testing according to procedures and prepare media
Qualifications & Experience
- Educational background in Agricultural or Biological Sciences preferred by not required. 1 year of lab experience considered an asset but is not required.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, communication and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently, as part of a team and within tight turnaround deadlines is required.
- Ability to lift up to 20kg as needed, physically able to stand while planting, carry sample trays and perform physical tasks for the duration of the work day is required.
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
