The Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Centre (SAFPC) has an opportunity for a highly skilled, empathic, and driven Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Reporting to the Treatment Care Manager of the Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Services, the LPN will carry out professional duties with the site’s Not Criminally Responsible due to Mental Disorder (NCR-MD) patients and the interdisciplinary team. Utilizing the professional standards of practice and the codes of conduct of the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Our treatment team adheres to Recovery Alberta policies and principles of Recovery, Patient/Family Centered, and Trauma Informed models of care. Duties include and are not limited to patient supervision in and out of the SAFPC building, attending/facilitating groups, promoting the enhancement of independence via the secure recovery and rehabilitation model, preparing pre-board reports, participating in scheduled Criminal Code Review Board hearings, 1:1 therapeutic support, participating in family therapy alongside an interdisciplinary team, medication administration, interdisciplinary patient conferences, and contributing to a safe and secure environment. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum of two years in the last five years’ experience in a forensic adult mental health inpatient setting. Solid interpersonal communication skills, organization skills, and critical thinking skills. Demonstrated knowledge of mental health diagnosis, treatment, and decompensation recognition. Understanding of secure recovery and the recovery-oriented practice model. Demonstrated knowledge of psychotropic medications and their side effects. Current Nonviolent crisis intervention is required. Current N95 Fit Test. Connect Care training.
Preferred Qualifications:
1 year of recent experience in an inpatient or community forensic setting. Training in Collaborative Problem Solving. Knowledge of the Not Criminally Responsible due to Mental Disorder (NCR-MD) Legislation and the Criminal Code Review Board (CCRB). Community mental health experience is an asset.
