About frontlineDNA
FrontlineDNA provides specialized physical and mental health support for first responders across Ontario. We work closely with police services, fire services, and paramedic teams, delivering care that understands the unique demands of shift work, operational stress, cumulative trauma, and station culture. Our model combines virtual clinical care with meaningful on-site presence so that members know the clinicians supporting them.
We are expanding our mental health team to offer confidential, high-quality psychotherapy tailored specifically to first responders.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Registered Psychotherapist with demonstrated experience treating first responders in Ontario. This role focuses primarily on virtual one-on-one counselling, with occasional visits to dedicated first responder stations to build rapport, support station culture, and strengthen trust with members.
You will work as part of an integrated clinical team that values whole-person care — supporting mental health alongside physical recovery, resilience, and long-term well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide confidential, trauma-informed, one-on-one psychotherapy via secure virtual platforms to police officers and other first responders.
- Assess and treat issues commonly experienced by first responders, including operational stress, cumulative trauma, anxiety, depression, sleep disruption, burnout, moral injury, grief, and relationship strain.
- Develop individualized treatment plans that respect the realities of shift work, operational demands, and the culture of emergency services.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) standards and organizational policies.
- Participate in occasional on-site visits at designated police stations (e.g., parade briefings, wellness spaces, or scheduled station days) to foster familiarity and trust.
- Collaborate with physiotherapists, clinical leads, and other team members to support coordinated, holistic care where appropriate.
- Uphold strict confidentiality and privacy standards (PHIPA compliant).
- Contribute to a supportive, stigma-reducing culture around help-seeking within first-responder communities.
- Engage in regular clinical supervision and professional development focused on first-responder populations.
Required Qualifications
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) as a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) or RP (Qualifying) with appropriate supervision arrangements.
- Demonstrated clinical experience providing psychotherapy to first responders (police, firefighters, paramedics, or related public safety personnel) in Ontario.
- Strong foundation in trauma-informed care and evidence-based approaches suitable for operational stress and cumulative trauma (e.g., CBT, ACT, EMDR, somatic approaches, or equivalent).
- Comfort and competence delivering therapy via secure virtual platforms.
- Understanding of first-responder culture, shift work, and the unique barriers to seeking mental health support.
- Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid professional liability insurance.
- Ability to travel occasionally to Toronto-area police stations as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with police services or embedded/on-site first-responder wellness programs.
- Additional training or certification in first-responder-specific mental health (e.g., CISM, R2MR, operational stress injury, or related).
- Experience supporting both active members and their families.
- Familiarity with secure clinical booking and documentation platforms (e.g., Jane or similar).
- Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
What We Offer
- Meaningful work supporting those who serve Ontario communities.
- Primarily virtual practice with flexible scheduling that respects the realities of clinical work.
- Occasional on-site engagement that strengthens connection with the members you support.
- Collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.
- Clinical supervision and opportunities for professional growth in first-responder mental health.
- Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
- Supportive organizational culture focused on clinician well-being as well as client outcomes.
