PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under indirect supervision, technicians will inspect client locations, perform necessary tests, write reports on findings, monitor contractor work and ensure legislative compliance with regard to environmental risk management and occupational health and safety. Technicians will collect and analyze samples to assess exposure levels to physical, chemical and biological agents and recommend ways to control workplace hazards through engineering methods, modified work procedures and protective equipment, as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Attends client sites as required to determine the location, quantity and type of sampling to be performed, and conducts effective and accurate sample collection, onsite testing and monitoring
· Performs designated substance and asbestos surveys and visual inspections during abatement and remediation projects
· Conducts air sampling for hazardous materials including PCM analysis for asbestos removal projects
· Prepares comprehensive reports indicating findings, conclusions and recommendations from information gathered through sampling and project meetings based on internal protocols, THEM, and government written guidelines and regulations
· Performs Occupational Exposure and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) assessments
· Attends client meetings as required to determine client needs and gather site information
· Develops and maintains strong and effective client relationships
· Completes in a timely and accurate manner all administrative tasks including invoicing information and timesheets for input into Deltek software
· Liaises with regulatory officials, contractors and labs as required, which may include dropping off samples and picking up any required testing or sampling equipment
· Conducts any necessary laboratory work, as required
· Assists in the maintenance and updating of report templates
· May be required to provide training and mentoring to junior technicians through job shadowing and one-on-one training
· Maintains all essential equipment and ensures proper calibration
Secondary Functions:
· Keeps knowledge and skills up to date by attending training sessions and professional development conferences and seminars as may be offered from time to time
· Attends trade shows as required
· Provides support to colleagues as required and participates in cross-functional training opportunities as may be presented from time to time
Key Accountabilities:
· Demonstrates a high degree of effectiveness and efficiency in conducting on-site surveys, sample collection and data analysis
· Demonstrates a high degree of accuracy in report preparation with logically defined conclusions and recommendations based on findings and adherence to regulatory standards and guidelines: prepares and submits reports for review and approval in a timely manner
· Able to conduct research to gather up-to-date information on various regulations as needed: must know, understand and have memorized key aspects of regulations such as the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Designated Substance Asbestos Regulations
· Communicates effectively with clients, contractors and project managers
· Will present complete and accurate invoicing and timesheet information for upload to IAS software every Monday morning
· Will achieve a billable hours performance of 80% or greater
Competencies:
· Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Proficient in Windows applications, spreadsheets and e-mail, and able to read and interpret CAD drawings
· Technical competency using various types of testing equipment
· Excellent relationship and team building skills

Education:
· Honours Bachelor of Science/Applied Science (Engineering)/Environmental Studies or equivalent degree, or 3 year college Diploma in Engineering or related Environmental/Occupational Health and Safety field.

Pay: $42,000.00-$47,000.00 per year
