Opening starting July 20, 2026, for a Part-Time Litigation Law Clerk, working approximately 12–15 hours per week at $24/hour, with flexible scheduling. This position will initially serve as a training and onboarding period.
This work is non legal aid criminal law work along with civil litigation, being mostly wrongful dismissal litigation.
Both areas of law have constant deadlines.
The criminal law work is procedurally challenging since the rules vary slightly from County to County. Also, if there is a Section 11(b) Charter application, the applicable OCJ court practice direction now mandates a chart showing what was done and when.
The civil law work involves the thoughtful creation of affidavits of documents and law briefs and motion records, along with the chasing of examination for discovery undertakings etc.
Filing of same with the court, requires interaction with the court computer. That takes its own kind of patience!
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized individual to assist approximately 12–15 hours per week in a small, open-concept office. The practice consists of approximately 60% civil litigation and 40% criminal law. Familiarity with CaseLines and the Ontario Court Portal would be considered an asset. The successful candidate must be quiet, methodical, and well organized, with the ability to work independently. Scheduling is flexible. The candidate will report to the lawyer, senior law clerk, and office manager during the training period.
This position is intended to transition into the firm’s Primary Law Clerk role as of July 20, 2026, with increased hours and responsibilities.
Starting rate is $24/hour during the training period.
It is suggested that the candidate do the projects that take considerable thought and attention to detail, before 9 in the morning and leave the balance of the day to the fun/stressful constant email/phone barrages.
A great attitude, attention to detail, computer skills and good writing skills will come in handy, but the most important quality a candidate should have is resilience.
This job will either be fun, or very stressful, depending on your personality.
The successful candidate should have a vehicle for serving claims, and will need to have a clean criminal record, as the occasional cash retainer will come in.
The office is located in Hyde Park.
