REACH Learning Centre North Vancouver is hiring Learning Interventionists to provide individualized literacy instruction to children and adolescents with dyslexia and other language-based learning difficulties.
We are looking for educators and learning-support professionals who are patient, engaging and genuinely interested in understanding how children learn, and what to do when traditional instruction isn't working.
Previous Orton-Gillingham or Structured Literacy training is an asset but is not required. **Training, mentoring and extensive teaching resources are provided by REACH.**
## What You'll Do
You will work primarily **one-to-one with students**, providing structured, explicit and individualized literacy intervention using Structured Literacy and Orton-Gillingham principles.
Your role will include:

* Building strong, positive relationships with students
* Adjusting instruction based on each student's needs and progress
* Preparing lessons using REACH's extensive library of research-based teaching resources (paid lesson planning time)
* Communicating professionally with families and the REACH team
* Participating in ongoing training, mentoring and professional development
This is intervention rather than traditional tutoring. Our goal isn't simply to help students complete schoolwork, it's to develop the underlying literacy skills they need to become stronger, more independent learners.
## Schedule
This is a **part-time, in-person position at our North Vancouver Learning Centre.**
Most students attend after school, so applicants must be available for some **after-school hours and able to be onsite by approximately 3:10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.**
Availability during daytime hours is an asset and can provide opportunities to build a larger schedule.
We offer considerable scheduling flexibility and work with our interventionists to develop consistent schedules that support both our students and a healthy work-life balance.
Our teaching calendar generally includes:
* Two weeks off at Christmas
* Two weeks off during spring break
* Optional five- to six-week summer teaching schedule

* Teacher or former teacher
* Education Assistant

* Special education or learning support professional
- Speech-language or communication support professional

Applicants must have:
* An excellent command of spoken and written English (very clear articulation is of utmost importance for our students)
* Experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring or supporting children or adolescents
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Patience, reliability and professionalism
* An ability to establish positive relationships with students
* A willingness to learn specialized approaches to literacy intervention
* Availability for consistent after-school teaching hours
Experience with **Structured Literacy, Orton-Gillingham, dyslexia, learning disabilities, special education or mathematics instruction** is an asset.
## What REACH Provides

We provide:
* Specialized training
* Ongoing mentoring and instructional support
* Extensive professionally developed teaching resources
* Professional development opportunities

## Why REACH?
For more than 20 years, REACH has specialized in supporting bright, capable students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties. We are the leader in Orton-Gillingham and Structured Literacy intervention.
We believe students should not continue to struggle simply because they haven't yet been taught in the way they need to learn.
Our interventionists become highly skilled at understanding **why a student is struggling, how to break learning into manageable steps, and how to help that student experience genuine success.** If you're an educator who wants to make a meaningful difference while continuing to develop your own expertise, we'd like to hear from you.
**To apply, please submit your résumé along with a brief introduction letter describing your experience working with children or adolescents and why you're interested in joining REACH.** Applicants without a cover letter will not be considered.
We thank all applicants for their interest. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
