Job Summary
Job Title: Full-Cycle Bookkeeper
Location: 95% Remote (Preference for candidates based in Saskatoon, SK/close surrounding area), 5% Dundurn
Employment Type: Hourly Contract
Books + Budgets is seeking an experienced Full-Cycle Bookkeeper to manage all aspects of our accounting processes, from transaction recording to financial reporting. This is a remote, hourly contract position for a candidate based in Saskatoon. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of accounting principles, positive and solution-based communication skills, and mandatory prior experience handling full-cycle bookkeeping independently.
This role starts immediately at approximately 15 hours per week, with a strong opportunity to increase to 30+ hours per week based on performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle bookkeeping, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings
- Reconcile bank, credit card, and other balance sheet accounts
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements and reports
- Process invoices, payments, and expense reports
- Process payroll in compliance with labour standards and regulations
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and company policies
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
- Collaborate with external accountants for tax filings and audits
- Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records
- Maintain positive and solution-based client working relationships with a wide variety of personalities
- Independently manage workload, ensuring deadlines are consistently met in a high-volume environment
Required Qualifications
- Mandatory: Proven experience in full-cycle bookkeeping
- Mandatory: Experience with payroll processing and knowledge of labour standards
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, related field, or equivalent working experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a remote environment
- Familiarity with Canadian accounting standards
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Experience filing personal + sole-proprietorship tax returns
- Protax software knowledge
