Position Summary
The Accounts Receivable Clerk at CPX (a division of Canada Cartage), is responsible for managing the full cycle of accounts receivable activities, including monitoring incoming payments and ensuring timely collections. This dynamic, hands-on role involves analyzing account statements and billing, maintaining accurate financial records, and fostering positive customer relationships. The incumbent will also support reporting processes and contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of receivables management.
Location: Surrey, British Columbia
Schedule: Mon-Fri, 40 hours
What you will do
- Apply customer payments accurately and in a timely manner (cash application)
- Perform bank runs for cheque deposits and ensure timely processing of received payments
- Monitor accounts for overdue balances and follow up to ensure timely collections
- Communicate with customers to confirm payment schedules, reconcile discrepancies, and resolve short or delayed payments
- Review and assess customer credit profiles; support credit limit evaluations and updates
- Reconcile customer accounts and resolve billing or payment discrepancies
- Generate and analyze AR aging reports; provide regular updates on account status and collection progress
- Prepare and distribute account statements to customers on a weekly and/or monthly basis
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of all collection activities, communications, and outstanding issues
- Collaborate with internal teams (commercial, operation, finance) to resolve disputes and improve collection outcomes
- Prepare write-off and adjustment requests with supporting documentation for approval
- Request and review customer credit reports as needed to support risk assessment
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities related to accounts receivable
- Prepare ad hoc reports and analysis for management and customers as required
- Support continuous improvement of AR processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy
What You’ll Bring
- 3–5 years of accounts receivable experience, preferably in a high-volume environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong customer service focus
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and perform effectively in a fast-paced setting
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUPs, pivot tables)
- Solid understanding of AR processes, including cash application, collections, and account reconciliation
- Effective problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Positive, professional attitude with the ability to collaborate in a team environment as well as work independently
- Transportation or logistics industry experience and formal accounting education are considered assets but not required
