Job Overview
The Child Care Center Cook plays a vital role in ensuring that children receive nutritious and delicious meals throughout the day. This position requires a passion for cooking and an understanding of food safety practices. The Cook will be responsible for meal preparation, adhering to dietary guidelines, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment, as well with interacting and assisting in the classrooms. This role is essential in supporting the overall health and well-being of the children in our care.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook nutritious meals and snacks for children, following established menus and dietary guidelines.
- Ensure all food is prepared in accordance with food safety standards and regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including proper storage of food items and purchased inventory.
- Assist in menu planning, taking into consideration dietary restrictions and preferences.
- Monitor inventory levels of food supplies and place orders as necessary to ensure adequate stock.
- Collaborate with child care staff to accommodate special events or dietary needs.
- Keep accurate records of meal preparation, including portion sizes and ingredient usage.
- Assist in the classroom as required by the supervisor in order to enhance or maintain child-staff ratios
- Ensure centre cleanliness is maintained.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of food safety practices and regulations.
- Experience working in a kitchen environment, preferably within the food industry or restaurant setting.
- Proficient in meal preparation techniques, including cooking methods suitable for large groups.
- Ability to handle food safely and maintain high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with staff and understand children's dietary needs.
- A passion for cooking and providing healthy meals that cater to children's tastes.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Valid Food Handlers Certification
- Current First Aid & CPR Level C
- Vulnerable Police Check (to be completed)
- Medical Form & Immunization(to be completed)
- Valid Driver's Licence & Reliable Vehicle.
Pay: $20.00-$21.00 per hour
