ABOUT THE HOSPICE OF WINDSOR AND ESSEX COUNTY
Founded to provide compassionate, clinical, end-of-life care, The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County Inc. (Hospice) has been caring for our community since 1979. Hospice believes in equitable access to care for all. We provide specialized wrap-around services to adults, children, and their caregivers, in the setting of their choice – whether it be in our Residences or in their home.
With only partial government funding, it has been through the generous support of our volunteers and our community that we have continued to provide memorable care, meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their loved ones.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Coordinator of Volunteers is dedicated to Hospice’s vision, mission, and values, and will support and work towards achieving the strategic directions set out by the Board of Directors. They will put their best efforts forward to promote the interests of our patients as well as contribute to a positive work culture.
The Coordinator of Volunteers is responsible for the maintenance of existing and implementation of new Hospice volunteer-led programs and activities. They will schedule, supervise and support Hospice volunteers in Hospice Residences and in the community. This role will also support the Community and Volunteer Engagement Department at fundraising, volunteer and internal events. The Coordinator will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to meet the identified needs of Hospice patients, families and caregivers.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Hospice Residences and Community Programming

Work collaboratively with team members to provide programming in the Hospice Residences and in the community for patients and families.

Oversee the day-to-day requirements of programs which include coordinating program supplies and providing administration support.

Recruit and schedule volunteers to assist in facilitating programs.

Identify Hospice patients and caregivers who would benefit from Volunteer Services. Complete the intake of patients interested in participating in programs.

Provide coverage for other Coordinator of Volunteer roles as required.

Maintain and provide statistical data reports for Ministry and organizational dashboards/needs.

Seek opportunities to expand and improve existing programs. Provide recommendations and implement new programs based on patient and caregiver needs.

Document appropriately in Electronic Medical Record or other platforms used by Hospice.
Volunteer Support

Recruit and schedule volunteers for third party events.

Assist with fundraising and volunteer events, and attend organization events as determined appropriate by Manager of CEA and Volunteer Services.

Assist other departments to recruit and/or schedule volunteers as required.

Assists with volunteer onboarding, training and education as required.
Other

Participate in employee engagement initiatives and provide feedback to contribute to program development and quality improvement projects.

WHAT WE OFFER

Hourly pay: $29.15 - $33.81 per hour full-time.

Pension: Hospice is a proud member of The Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP). Available for enrollment for all staff.

Paid Time Off: Employees receive a minimum of three (3) weeks of paid vacation annually.

Paid Sick/Personal Emergency Leave: Full-time employees are provided with ten (10) paid personal emergency leave days per year.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
-
Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Valid Police Record Check including vulnerable sector check (within six months of hire, and declaration of offences as required).

Flexibility of hours; evenings and weekends as required.

French language skills are an asset.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrate an understanding of palliative and end of life care.

Ability to work independently, set priorities, be flexible, meet deadlines, and allocate resources effectively.

Good oral, written and telephone communication skills.

Good organizational and prioritizing skills. Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.

Problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Willingness to take initiative and work independently to complete tasks.

Positive attitude and ability to work with teams and groups.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience in or ability to learn agency programs such as Sumac and Cerner/Oracle Health.

Leadership skills and ability to speak in front of groups.

Ability to lead, mentor, coach, and guide volunteers.

EXPERIENCE

Experience working with not-for-profit organizations is an asset.

Experience leading volunteers is an asset.

Experience working in recreation is an asset.

EDUCATION
-
Post-secondary/college or university degree is required.

Completion of Hospice’s Volunteer Patient Care Training Program and/or Fundamentals of Palliative Care is an asset.
