Quality Control Coordinator

SUMMARY
Reporting to the Quality Director/Manager, the Quality Control Coordinator is responsible for implementing and maintaining the Project Quality Management System in compliance with ISO 9001, contract requirements, and client specifications. This field-focused role plays a critical part in the construction team and works closely with clients, subcontractors, and engineers to provide formal verification of compliant work. You will be responsible for ensuring that all heavy civil and Support of Excavation (SOE) activities are planned, executed, and controlled in accordance with approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), drawings, and specifications.
PRIMARY SCOPE OF ROLE
Field Inspection & Quality Control
Oversee daily field construction activities for Support of Excavation (SOE), including slurry walls, secant piles, tiebacks, struts, walers, steel bracing systems, reinforcement works, civil works, utilities, asphalt works, and associated concrete operations.
Execute structural inspections covering reinforcement, formwork, and concrete pouring to verify strict compliance with project specifications, approved ITPs, and drawings.
Review technical documentation, including Shop Drawings, ITPs, project specifications, and Material Data Sheets, before any job starts on-site to ensure full conformity.
Manage the implementation of the ITP, ensuring absolute compliance with all designated hold points, witness points, and rigorous testing requirements.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Inspection Coordination
Partner proactively with internal construction teams and subcontractors prior to and during execution to align daily activities with quality standards.
Coordinate formal inspections with client representatives, engineers, and third-party inspectors to secure necessary sign-offs as a formal verification step.
Communicate potential quality risks, deficiencies, and site constraints to leadership, engineers, and stakeholders early to maintain project timelines.
Quality Documentation & Systems Compliance
Own the completion, verification, and sign-off of all quality checklists prior to client, engineer, or stakeholder inspections.
Maintain and save project documentation and records in a timely manner, uploading verified files directly into project systems such as Procore, SharePoint, and client-specific platforms.
Drive full adherence to the ISO 9001 quality system, ensuring all field records are traceable, accurate, and completely compliant with audit expectations.
Continuous Improvement & Risk Mitigation
Identify site deficiencies and process gaps proactively to prevent non-conformances and minimize rework.
Support continuous improvement initiatives across the project by recommending and implementing process enhancements based on field observations.
Mitigate project-level quality risks by building strong, collaborative working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal operations teams.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education: Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering Technology/Technician or a related engineering program; a Bachelor of Civil Engineering is considered an asset.
Experience: Minimum 2+ years of experience in infrastructure, heavy civil, or Support of Excavation (SOE) projects and reinforced concrete works.
Technical Skills: Hands-on exposure to SOE activities (slurry walls, secant piles, tiebacks, struts, walers, steel bracing systems) and structural concrete inspections.
Industry Standards: Strong knowledge of provincial/regional construction standards and specifications (e.g., OPSS, CSA) and ISO 9001 quality management systems.
Systems/Platforms: Proficient with construction and document management platforms, specifically Procore, SharePoint, or equivalent client-specific portals.
Soft Skills: Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities, resolve dynamic field challenges, and manage diverse stakeholders in a highly audited environment.
License: A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required for field travel..
WHAT WE OFFER
Expected Base Salary: $60,000-$80,000 per year. The actual base salary will depend on several factors including experience, qualifications, internal equity, work location, and market expectations.
