Job Summary
We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our growing accounting and tax practice. The successful candidate will manage client engagements, provide accounting and tax services, conduct client consultations, and deliver practical tax planning and advisory solutions.
This is a client-facing role focused on demonstrating professional expertise, building client trust, and supporting the conversion of qualified prospects into long-term clients in collaboration with our Business Development and Client Relations teams.
Duties
- Manage a portfolio of small and medium-sized business clients
- Perform full-cycle accounting and review accounting records
- Prepare and review working papers and financial statements
- Prepare corporate tax returns (T2)
- Prepare and review trust tax returns (T3)
- Assist with trust and estate accounting and related tax compliance
- Prepare GST/HST and other tax and regulatory filings
- Review bookkeeping files and ensure accuracy and completeness
- Assist clients with accounting and tax-related matters
- Provide tax planning and tax advisory services to individuals, corporations, trusts, estates, and business owners
- Identify tax planning opportunities and develop practical, tax-efficient strategies
- Research Canadian tax legislation and complex accounting and tax matters and provide practical solutions
- Communicate directly with business owners and provide professional accounting and tax support
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and prospective clients
- Identify opportunities to provide additional accounting, tax, tax planning, and advisory services
- Participate in networking events and professional community activities
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships and support client retention
- Contribute to business growth through professional relationship building
- Manage deadlines and engagement workflows independently
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, quality, and client service
- Support improvements to accounting, tax, and internal business processes and workflows
- Collaborate with leadership on client engagements, tax planning, trust and estate matters, and accounting issues
Requirements
- CPA designation
- Minimum 3 years of Canadian accounting and tax experience
- Experience working with multiple clients or in an accounting firm environment preferred
- Experience preparing corporate tax returns (T2)
- Experience preparing or reviewing trust tax returns (T3)
- Experience with tax planning and providing tax advisory services
- Knowledge or experience with trust and estate accounting and taxation is a strong asset
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting principles and Canadian tax compliance requirements
- Strong understanding of Canadian tax planning principles and strategies
- Experience independently managing client files and engagements
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Fluency in Cantonese and Mandarin is a strong asset
- Strong interpersonal and client relationship management skills
- Self-motivated, proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work independently
- Ability to manage multiple client files, priorities, and deadlines effectively
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism, confidentiality, accuracy, and client service
Technical Skills
- QuickBooks Online experience required
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with TaxCycle, CaseWare, CCH, or similar software is an asset
- Familiarity with CRA online systems is an asset
