United We Can is a Vancouver-based non-profit organization that creates economic opportunities through environmental initiatives for people from marginalized communities in the Downtown Eastside.
Through our free pickup service of refundable beverage containers around Metro Vancouver, we work together with local businesses to make a meaningful impact on the community.
We are seeking a dependable and proactive Driver Helper/Swamper to assist with daily recycling bins pick-up and delivery along Metro Vancouver. This role involves supporting the driver in loading, unloading, and safely delivering and picking up recycling bins to various locations. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and the ability to handle physical tasks efficiently. This position offers an opportunity to gain valuable experience in commercial driving while making a meaningful impact on the community.
Responsibilities
- Support the driver on recycling bin collection routes
- Load and unload recycling bins using appropriate equipment when necessary
- Help secure loads to ensure safe transportation during transit
- Navigate pick-up routes efficiently and follow all safety protocols
- Communicate effectively with the driver and customers to coordinate pick-up schedules
- Help guide the truck in tight or busy areas
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment during loading and unloading activities
Skills
- Ability to assist with moving bins safely and efficiently (physical work)
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members and customers
- Physical stamina for lifting, moving, and working in various weather conditions
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow detailed instructions for safety compliance
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
- Occasional weekend shifts
- Overtime as required
Expected start date: As soon as possible
Pay: $20.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
