Community Clothing Assistance – Thunder Bay, ON
Community Clothing Assistance (CCA) is a local charitable organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families in our community by providing access to free/affordable clothing and essential household items.
We are currently seeking a reliable, motivated, and customer-focused Part-Time Cashier / Backroom Associate potentially leading to a Full-Time position based on the requirements of the organization. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, contributing to the community, and working in a dynamic/fast paced retail environment.
The successful candidate will assist with customer service, cashier duties, merchandise processing, donations, inventory organization, and general store operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide friendly, respectful, and professional customer service to all customers and community members.
- Operate the cash register and accurately process cash, debit, credit, and other approved payment methods.
- Handle cash responsibly and maintain accuracy when processing transactions.
- Assist customers with inquiries regarding merchandise, pricing, promotions, and store policies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming sales floor and checkout area.
- Receive, sort, organize, tag, hang, price, and stock donated merchandise.
- Assist with the processing and organization of incoming donations.
- Replenish merchandise on the sales floor and ensure products are appropriately displayed.
- Organize clothing and non-clothing items according to established store procedures.
- Assist with backroom organization, inventory management, and maintaining an efficient work area.
- Support the team during busy periods and assist with various store duties as required.
- Demonstrate initiative when identifying tasks that need to be completed.
- Handle customer concerns professionally and assist with basic conflict resolution when required.
- Follow organizational policies, procedures, safety guidelines, and cash-handling practices.
- Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to ensure the store operates efficiently.
- Perform other reasonable duties related to the operation of the store and the organization's charitable mission.
Qualifications & Skills
Previous experience in retail, cashiering, customer service, or a similar environment would be considered an asset. However, we encourage individuals with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn to apply.

- Willingness to work with staff, volunteers, customers, and members of the community from diverse backgrounds.
- Basic mathematical skills and the ability to accurately handle transactions.
- Previous knowledge of cash registers or point-of-sale systems is an asset.
Physical Requirements
The position involves active retail and backroom duties. Candidates should be comfortable with:
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying merchandise.
- Repeatedly sorting and organizing clothing and other donated items.
- Lifting and carrying items weighing up to approximately 20 lbs.
- Maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
Schedule & Availability
This is a part-time position. Candidates with flexible availability are preferred, as scheduling may vary based on the operational needs of the store.
Store Hours:
- Monday – Friday: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Saturday: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Candidates who are able to provide flexible part-time availability will be considered an asset.
