Your Opportunity:
Under the limited supervision of the Program Manager, Surgical Suite or designate, the Unit Clerk assists primarily with the scheduling of physicians and provides support for the O.R. management team. The Unit Clerk exercises independent judgement through extensive knowledge of the department and procedures. The successful candidate must possess the ability to follow written procedures and verbal instructions. The ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality is essential. Good interpersonal and communication skills are required. Reliability and a neat appearance are also important.
Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Must have medical terminology and three (3) years working in a surgical environment. Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail in assigned duties. Extensive computer experience required. Ability to cope with frequent interruptions. Effective interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with patients, families and all levels of staff are required. Excellent time management, communication, multi-tasking skills and the ability to organize and prioritize workload effectively required. Demonstrated initiative, flexibility and independence in a team atmosphere. Demonstrated ability to adapt towards change. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have medical terminology and current three (3) years working in a surgical environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience with scheduling an asset. Working advanced knowledge of MS Office including Excel, ESP, e-People (RMS Portion of e-People - Recruitment Management Systems), Connect Care, Netcare, EPIC< internet, E-mail. Employee Scheduling; Oracle (P2P) and typing speed of 40 WPM.
