Fabbrica Thornbury is seeking a polished, personable, and detail-oriented Host to serve as the first and last point of contact for our guests. Reporting to the Front of House Manager, the Host is responsible for creating a warm, professional, and seamless arrival and departure experience that reflects the standards of our restaurant. This is a part-time evening position ideally suited to a candidate who thrives in a fast-paced, guest-focused environment and takes pride in first impressions.
Guest Arrival & Seating
- Greet all guests warmly and promptly upon arrival, providing a welcoming first impression consistent with the restaurant's brand and service standards.
- Manage the reservation book and waitlist accurately using the restaurant's reservation/POS platform, balancing table turns with guest wait-time expectations.
- Seat guests efficiently and strategically, considering server section rotation, party size, and special seating requests, including accessibility needs.
- Present menus and communicate any relevant service information (specials, timing, allergen notices) at the point of seating.
Communication & Coordination
- Answer incoming telephone calls promptly and professionally; take accurate reservations and respond to general guest inquiries.
- Liaise continuously with servers, management, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth table flow and timely communication of guest needs.
- Manage guest concerns or complaints at the door with tact and professionalism, escalating to a manager where required.
- Assist with take-out or to-go order coordination as needed.
Front of House Standards
- Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and presentation of the host stand, entrance, waiting area, and menus at all times.
- Monitor dining room capacity and pacing throughout service to support consistent guest flow.
- Uphold professional grooming and uniform standards in line with company policy.
- Support opening and closing side-work duties relevant to the host position as assigned by management.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all workplace health and safety procedures in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
- Report any safety hazards, incidents, or accessibility barriers to management immediately.
- Adhere to all company policies regarding guest privacy, data handling of reservation information, and workplace conduct.
Prior experience in a host, guest services, or front-of-house hospitality role is an asset, though motivated candidates new to the industry are welcome to apply.- Excellent verbal communication skills and a friendly, professional demeanour.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and remain composed during high-volume service periods.
- Comfort using, or willingness to learn, restaurant reservation and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the restaurant's operating schedule.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
