Position: Full-Time Hide Tanner – Department Lead
We have been in business for 40 years established in 1986. Inspired by nature, hunting and fishing, and being avid fishermen and hunters brought the idea of Advanced Taxidermy to life. Advanced Taxidermy does a full line of taxidermy, including big game, life size mounts, shoulder mounts, tanning, birds, mammals, reptiles, fish as well as recreations and reproductions.
Type of Employment: Full time Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm
Estimated Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary: $35/hour – may fluctuate based on experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain tanning equipment, drums, fleshing machine and related tools
- Apply tanning chemicals and treatments while following safety procedures.
- Inspect hides for quality and identify any issues requiring corrective action.
- Washing, stretching, drying, and finishing of tanned hides.
- Maintain accurate records of customer orders and production status.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with workplace safety standards.
- Work collaboratively with taxidermists and production staff to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Help maintain tanning supplies, chemicals, and shop inventory.
- Inspect animal hides for quality and defects
Qualifications:
- Physical Fitness: The candidate must be physically fit and capable of performing manual labor for extended periods of time, must be able to lift and carry minimum of 80lbs.
- Attention to Detail: The candidate must have a keen eye for detail to ensure that the hide is properly tanned and finished.
- Knowledge of Tanning Techniques: The candidate must have an advanced understanding of tanning techniques and processes, including curing, fleshing, and shaving.
- Safety Awareness: The candidate must be aware of safety procedures and adhere to them at all times to ensure a safe working environment.
- Time Management Skills: The candidate must be able to manage their time effectively to meet production targets and deadlines.
- Communication Skills: The candidate must be able to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure that work is completed to the required standard.
- Willingness to Learn: The candidate must be willing to learn new techniques and processes as required to improve their skills and increase productivity.
- Flexibility: The candidate must be flexible and able to adapt to changing work environments
Previous experience tanning at a production level, and experience with a fleshing machine are requirements.
