Licensed Practical Nurse – Casual
The LPN will participate in the application of the nursing process, and will provide basic assessments and treatments, personal care, medication administration and health services to the residents as required, as well as provide support and guidance to the Health Care Aides. The LPN functions in an independent, interdependent and collaborative role within the legal and ethical requirements of professional practice. All responsibilities will be conducted in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy of United Active Living.
Responsibilities (includes but not limited to):
Assessment & Planning: completing routine assessments, reporting observations of resident’s health condition, wellness monitoring and documenting as required; collaboration in developing or modifying resident care plans, identifying care priorities, assist in the establishment of health goals with the resident, their family and other team members under the supervision of the Resident Care Manager
Delivery of Care: Implementation and documentation of care, utilizing appropriate nursing skills accurately and expertly; teaching resident on aspects of good health practices; medication assistance as required in accordance to all governing policies, regulations and standards; accept & process physician orders and documentation as required
Work Safety: provides safety and well-being of residents while adhering to all safety rules and procedures; participate in workplace safety program, identification and reporting of safety hazards
Leadership & Supervision: work collaboratively with peers and other United Team Members; demonstrate commitment to being an ambassador of goodwill to all who enter the community; able to function as a team player and share responsibilities of administering resident services with others; assist with training new staff, including agency staff
Qualifications
Must hold a current license with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta.
Must have graduated from an approved LPN program of studies.
Must have current CPR certification
Must be able to read, write and speak fluently in the English language.
Preferably has experience working with seniors or individuals with disabilities.
Physical Requirements
Must be in good overall health, and able to adequately accommodate the rapidly changing pace of a healthcare environment;
Must demonstrate emotional stability to cope with the physical, mental and emotional stress of the position;
Must be able to stand/walk for 1 hour continuously; and
May be required to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds (22 kgs).
