Job Description:
Working within the Cougars Athletics and Recreation department, these are flexible positions whose work schedule is variable and may include an irregular schedule of not less than three (3) hours per shift and up to thirty-five (35) hours per week. These positions will end March 31, 2027.
The Statistician Spotter plays an essential role in the accurate and timely collection of in-game statistics for the Cougars. Positioned next to the official statistician, the Spotter is responsible for closely observing the action and calling out key details. This role ensures that live stats are both precise and promptly entered into the official system used by Canada West and U SPORTS.
Strong knowledge of the sport is essential, as is the ability to think quickly, communicate clearly, and maintain intense focus throughout the match. This role is perfect for individuals interested in sport analytics, officiating, coaching, or team operations. The Spotter contributes directly to the quality of live game data and plays a critical part in the success of our statistical and media reporting processes.
The Statistician Spotter will also be training in the statistical programs and will act as the back up for the statistician. There are four Statistician Spotter positions: basketball, hockey, soccer and volleyball.
- Support set-up, testing and use various gameday technology; troubleshoot as required
- Memorize home team rosters (names, numbers and faces)
- Adapt and support the game day team where needed
- Ensure all requirements and regulations set-out by Canada West and U Sports are met
- 12 - 18 months of related experience
- Passion for sports
- A knowledge of the sport you are supporting considered an asset
- Ability to work all shifts between Thursday - Sunday afternoons and evenings
- Highly motivated individual who can work well independently and under pressure
- Clear and consistent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong focus and attention to detail
- Commitment to time management and punctuality
- Ability to lift items of up to 50lbs on an occasional basis
Salary: $15.45 - $19.44 per hour
