Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable [Heavy] Equipment Operator to join our team. The Equipment Operator will directly support our landscape construction project sites as directed by the Foreman or Superintendent. The equipment operator role is critical for project timelines where reliability of completion may intertwine with other companies during the lifespan of any given project.
MDL Landscaping serves Cochrane, Calgary, Airdrie, and surrounding areas in between.
Responsibilities
- Support the Foreman or Superintendent by reading project plans, and applying that information to the job scope with the required machine.
- Support Landscape Construction tasks related to, but not limited to: grading, coring, screening, placing large root-ball trees, moving sod and brick pallets, sorting and placing boulders, loading, unloading, and transporting equipment as needed.
- Safely maneuver and operate any given equipment within residential & commercial locations, sometimes with high pedestrian traffic or within other active construction sites.
- Perform equipment inspections and maintain accurate records of equipment operation on any given project site.
- Operate any equipment with a high standard of awareness for safety, for yourself and the team around you.
- The Equipment Operator will have opportunity to pick up hours in lieu of rain days.
Requirements
- Experience operating one or more of the following: Skid Steers (259, 265, 279), Frontend Loaders (CAT920, IT14), or Excavators (CAT 303, 305, 308, 316, 323).
- Experience loading and unloading machinery and driving truck and trailer.
- A basic understanding of the landscape construction process in a residential and commercial property aspect.
- Be technologically capable for tracking your own hours, documenting site operations, and a basic understanding of the modern systems within the machines.
- Available to work weekends as required (weather, deadline, or general maintenance related).
- Be comfortable working alone and checking in with the Foreman or Superintendent periodically.
- Basic mechanical knowledge related to heavy equipment.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL Class-5), related operating certifications as needed.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 50 pounds when necessary.
- Strong attention to safety protocols, a detail-oriented approach to accomplish the job tasks, and be versatile for last minute project location changes.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $28.00-$32.00 per hour
