About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 88-year-old woman living independently in a condominium in the Don Mills area of Toronto. She's typically very active and sharp, but recently experienced a hip issue that has impacted her mobility and overall well-being. She now uses a walker and needs furniture rearranged in her small condo to accommodate it safely. She's a strong personality—loving but independent—and may initially resist help or downplay her needs. She experiences fluctuating periods where she feels confused, struggles with mobility, and forgets to eat or drink, which can cause her condition to spiral quickly. She needs someone patient, reliable, and able to provide both practical support and genuine companionship to combat loneliness and keep her engaged mentally and physically.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with light housekeeping, cleaning, and laundry
- Prepare meals and ensure she's eating and drinking fluids regularly throughout the day
- Help with mobility support, including walking assistance and transfers using her walker
- Run errands and provide occasional transportation for appointments
- Provide companionship and emotional support to reduce isolation
- Encourage light exercises at home to maintain physical activity
- Assist with technology questions (phone, laptop, iPad) to keep her connected
- Monitor her overall well-being and communicate any concerns to the family
- Rearrange furniture as needed to ensure safe navigation with her walker
What We're Looking For:
- Female caregiver who speaks fluent English
- Patient, calm, and positive demeanor with strong interpersonal skills
- Experience with seniors, particularly those with mobility challenges and memory changes
- Ability to work with strong personalities and handle resistance to care with grace
- Reliable, consistent, and takes initiative when needed
- Strong communication skills to keep family informed
- Respectful of independence while ensuring safety
- Comfortable with light housekeeping, meal preparation, and companionship care
Schedule:
Starting with two visits per week (flexible days such as Monday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday), 3 hours per visit. Schedule may increase to 3-4 days per week based on needs and how things progress. Flexibility is important as her condition fluctuates—some weeks may require additional support during difficult periods.
