Join Park Derochie, one of Canada's leading industrial service contractors. We're looking for an Assistant Controller who enjoys hands-on accounting, leadership, and partnering with operations in a fast-paced environment.
This is a maternity leave contract position anticipated to last approximately 12–18 months, with strong potential for ongoing employment.
Your Role
Reporting to the Controller, you will play a key role in the financial operations of the company, including:
- Help lead the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting activities.
- Lead the month-end and year-end close process and prepare accurate financial reporting that supports business decision-making.
- Partner with leadership to develop budgets, forecasts, and financial insights that drive operational performance.
- Work closely with operations teams to analyze project performance, job costs, profitability, and key business metrics.
- Coordinate annual audits and support compliance with tax, regulatory, and reporting requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, strengthen internal controls, and support system enhancements and automation initiatives.
- Coach, mentor, and develop accounting team members.
What You Bring
- CPA designation (or substantial progress toward completion).
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in construction or other project-based industries.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting principles, financial reporting, payroll, and taxation.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP or accounting software systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and a collaborative leadership style.
