The Opportunity
We are presently seeking an Automation Controls Designer to design, program, and implement advanced control systems while collaborating closely with engineering, manufacturing, and commercial teams to bring new products to market. You will help shape the future of our automation platform by contributing to the development of configurable, high-performance solutions that balance technical excellence with real-world application.
This role is on-site and reporting to the General Manager.
This role is a vacant established role supporting ongoing business operations.
The final compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and overall qualifications.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Design, develop, and program control systems for industrial machines and automation products (PLCs, HMIs, motion control, and more)
- Contribute across the full product lifecycle from concept and architecture to testing, validation, and market release
- Build scalable, standardized, and modular control architectures that support repeatable product deployment
- Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical, and controls teams to deliver high-performing, integrated systems
- Develop and maintain technical documentation (functional specs, I/O lists, electrical interfaces, user manuals)
- Participate in design reviews and help elevate performance, reliability, and manufacturability
- Support prototype builds, system debugging, and validation both in-house and on-site
- Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues during development and post-deployment
- Contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Partner with product management and applications teams to ensure alignment with market needs and real-world use cases
- Support commissioning, startup, and occasional travel to customer sites
- Provide technical support and training to internal teams, customers, and service personnel
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 5 years of hands-on experience with: Rockwell Automation (Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, View Designer) Beckhoff controls
- Strong knowledge of industrial automation systems (PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, networking)
- Experience with additional platforms (Siemens, Omron) is an asset
- Proficiency in ladder logic and structured text programming
- Experience with industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP)
- Exposure to robotics (Fanuc, ABB, Motoman) is a plus
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
- Willingness to travel for commissioning and customer support
