The opportunity
The Associate Director, International Recruitment will provide strategic leadership and oversight in the development, execution and evaluation of long-term strategic plans to recruit international students in order to meet the university’s international student enrolment targets. They will identify new opportunities for recruitment and outreach initiatives to attract and retain applicants and to position the university competitively within Canadian and international markets.
The successful candidate will maximize market reach in order to successfully meet enrolment targets through strategic business development and effective relationship management. Additionally, they will develop and maintain an international network of agents, recruitment partners and in-country representatives to drive recruitment efforts and ensure enrolment targets are achieved. Lastly, this role will implement in-person, virtual and digital engagement to support the international recruitment team in adopting new strategies and tactics to engage prospective students, international agents, in-country representatives and recruitment partners.
Additionally, a major asset for the successful candidate would be previous experience working in international student recruitment specific to the United States, the Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. Middle East and North Africa, Europe and Latin America. Please note that this is a hybrid role with the opportunity to work remotely and on-campus as operationally required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads the development and execution of data-driven regional recruitment strategies to meet the university’s international student enrolment targets while monitoring success of recruitment strategies and conversion rates against enrolment targets.
- Provides exemplary client-service to prospective students, maximizing the accessibility of support to inquirers and applicants throughout the application and admissions process.
- Monitors and analyzes market trends, issues, and opportunities for student recruitment within an assigned region as well as collaborates with Marketing and Digital Engagement to conduct market specific research to identify new opportunities.
- Identifies, researches, and engages with potential international agents to represent the university within a designated region. Establishes enrolment targets, monitors targets and performance, and leads the onboarding and training with agent partners.
- Oversees the hiring, performance management and development of staff, including in-country representatives so that their full potential is actualized, and their knowledge and skills are constantly being developed.
- Work in close partnership with the International Recruitment Administrator to coordinate and support operational workflows, including the effective management of the international recruitment/service inbox, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality responses to prospective students, applicants, and partners.
- Provide direct oversight, training, and day-to-day direction to Career Boost international student staff serving as International Recruitment Assistants, ensuring alignment with recruitment priorities, service standards, and institutional brand representation.
Qualifications

Experience Requirements:
- Completion of a post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline such as business or marketing; graduate degree preferred.
- A minimum of seven (7) years’ progressive management experience, including five to seven (5-7) years of international recruitment with specific experience.
- Experience in international student recruitment across diverse global markets is considered an asset.
- Experience managing staff in a unionized environment.
- Experience in an international/multicultural environment; working experience in a post-secondary educational environment.
- Experience in the development of international marketing and recruitment strategies and management of international relationships and partnerships.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and implementing regional recruitment strategies and evaluating the ROI of recruitment and outreach initiatives.
- Experience building and managing a diverse recruitment budget with a demonstrated history of ROI.
- Demonstrated experience with virtual recruitment and outreach activities.
Required Capabilities:
- Language capability in the assigned region.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Ontario, Canadian and international secondary and post-secondary educational levels.
- Knowledge and understanding of Canadian and international government legislation and best practices pertaining to international activities.
- Knowledge of international issues, current trends and issues within Canada impacting the education sector.
- Extensive knowledge of international environments and cross-cultural competency and knowledge of protocols.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Superior (oral / written) communication including presentation skills.
