Position Summary
The Forklift Driver is responsible for the safety operation of a forklift to move, load, unload, and organize pallets and materials within the facility. This role supports shipping and receiving, production efficiency, inventory flow, and workplace safety by ensuring accurate material handling, following plant safety procedures, and maintaining a clean and organized work areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a forklift safely to move, lift, load, and unload pallets, lumber, and other materials.
- Transport materials to designated production or storage areas as instructed.
- Conduct pre-shift equipment inspections and report mechanical or safety concerns immediately.
- Ensure loads are properly loaded for strapping and transportation without damage.
- Assist with stacking, organizing, and inventory movement within the yard or warehouse.
- Maintain accurate counts of materials handled when required.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and production teams regarding material needs and priorities.
- Follow all site traffic rules, designated lanes, and equipment operating procedures.
- Keep work area clean and free of hazards, including removing debris or obstructions.
- Comply with all company safety policies, WorkSafeBC requirements, and forklift operation standards.
Qualifications
- Valid Forklift Certification (counterbalance or other relevant classes).
- Minimum 1 year of forklift or material-handling experience preferred.
- Ability to operate a forklift safely in tight or high-traffic environments.
- Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Reliable, safety-minded, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Basic English reading ability for labels, safety instructions, and paperwork
Health and Safety Compliance
- All duties must be performed in compliance with the Workers Compensation Act and WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.
- Employer-provided PPE must be worn at all times.
- Follow safe work procedures and report hazards or injuries immediately..
