Position Summary
The Phlebotomist / Health Care Assistant is responsible for performing venipuncture and specimen collection while assisting physicians and nurses with clinical and administrative duties. The role ensures high-quality patient care, accurate specimen handling, and compliance with clinic policies and healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities Phlebotomy Duties
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection
- Label, process, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing
- Ensure proper storage and transportation of samples
- Maintain accurate documentation in EMR
- Follow infection control and safety protocols
Clinical Support
- Measure and record vital signs (BP, pulse, temperature, weight)
- Prepare patients for examination
- Assist physicians during procedures
- Clean and sterilize examination rooms
- Maintain medical supplies and equipment
Administrative Support
- Update patient charts in EMR
- Book appointments as required
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (preferred)
- Medical Office Assistant or Health Care Assistant certification (asset)
- Experience in a family practice or walk-in clinic setting (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of infection control procedures
- Excellent communication and patient care skills
- Proficiency with EMR systems
