Summary
ETO Engineering is seeking a Process Engineer - Water and Wastewater to support the design, assessment, and optimization of treatment processes for municipal and industrial water and wastewater facilities. This role offers hands-on experience in process design, hydraulic modeling, equipment selection, testing and commissioning. The ideal candidate will work closely with senior engineers, project managers, and clients to develop efficient and sustainable engineering infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Process Design & Engineering:
- Assist in the design and evaluation of water and wastewater treatment processes, including coagulation, filtration, biological treatment, disinfection, and sludge management.
- Perform mass balance calculations, process modeling, and hydraulic analysis to support treatment system design.
- Prepare process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and design reports.
- Conduct treatment plant capacity assessments, performance evaluations, and optimization studies.
- Support the selection and specification of pumps, blowers, chemical dosing systems, piping, valves, and other treatment equipment.
Field Work & Commissioning:
- Participate in field investigations, process troubleshooting, and pilot testing programs.
- Assist in plant commissioning, performance testing, and operator training for new and upgraded treatment facilities.
- Conduct site visits to collect data, verify design parameters, and support construction activities.
- Perform site inspection duty for construction contracts.
Technical Documentation & Support:
- Develop technical reports, feasibility studies, process control strategies, and design specifications.
- Review and analyze laboratory and operational data to assess plant performance and identify process improvements.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation engineers, to integrate process design with overall facility design.
Project Coordination & Client Engagement:
- Work closely with clients, municipalities, and regulatory agencies to ensure project requirements and environmental standards are met.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals, project schedules, and cost estimates.
- Support senior engineers and project managers in contract administration, RFP preparation, and technical presentations.
Contract Administration & Site Inspection:
- Perform site inspection duties for construction contracts.
- Coordinate construction and testing activities with office staff, owner, subconsultants, and contractor.
- Assist in contract administration tasks including meeting minutes, progress payments, change orders, contract close-out documents.
- Assist in testing and commissioning planning and coordination.
Qualifications & Skills
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Environmental, Civil Engineering, Mechanical, or a related field.
- Experience: 1–8 years of experience in water and wastewater process engineering, municipal infrastructure, or environmental engineering.
- Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment technologies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Familiarity with hydraulic modeling, process simulation software (e.g., BioWin, GPS-X, or similar), and mass balance calculations.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, technical drawings, and process control documentation.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and AutoCAD.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and client interactions.
- Must have a ‘G’ Driver’s License and access to a vehicle for travels
Preferred Qualifications
- EIT or P.Eng. designation (or working toward P.Eng.).
- Hands-on experience with water and wastewater treatment process optimization, and facility commissioning.
- Knowledge of SCADA, instrumentation, and control systems related to water and wastewater treatment.
- Experience with environmental permitting, compliance reporting, and regulatory liaison.
- Familiarity with CFD modeling, GIS applications, or energy efficiency studies is an asset.

Pay: $70,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
