Job Description
Growing City is looking for reliable event waste sorting contractors for a busy summer event season. This is a great opportunity for dependable, hands-on individuals who are comfortable working outdoors, staying active, and supporting waste diversion at large public and private events.
Contractors will help manage waste, recycling, organics, cardboard, refundables, and other event materials. The role includes sorting materials, monitoring bins, keeping waste areas clean, and helping ensure materials are properly separated throughout the event.
Shifts are available from July through September, with the highest demand on weekends and during large event days. Some shifts may start early in the morning, run late into the evening, or continue overnight.
Responsibilities
- Sort waste, recycling, organics, cardboard, refundables, and other materials
- Monitor waste stations and help attendees place items in the correct bins
- Move bags, bins, and materials as needed
- Keep sorting areas clean, organized, and safe
- Follow instructions from supervisors and event managers
- Record or report waste-related information when required
- Work professionally around event staff, vendors, clients, and the public
- Support set-up, event-day operations, and clean-up shifts as assigned
Requirements
- Able to lift and move up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable standing, walking, bending, and working for full shifts
- Comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions
- Available for weekend shifts
- Available for some early morning, evening, late-night, or overnight shifts
- Able to travel to event locations across Vancouver, West Vancouver, Surrey, Coquitlam, and nearby areas
- Previous waste sorting, janitorial, event, warehouse, landscaping, or labour experience is an asset, but not required
Schedule
This is casual seasonal work with shifts available between July and September 2026.
Typical shifts range from 6 to 8 hours, with some shorter or longer shifts depending on the event. Start times vary and may include early mornings, daytime, evenings, late nights, and overnight shifts.
We are looking for staff with flexible availability, especially on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
