Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Shop Assistant to support our manufacturing operations. This role involves assisting with various machining and assembly tasks, ensuring quality standards are met, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, familiarity with CNC equipment, and the ability to read technical drawings and blueprints. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills in manufacturing processes, CNC programming, and shop operations.
Duties
- Assist with setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC machines including CNC lathe and CNC milling machines
- Read and interpret blueprints, CAD models, and technical drawings to support manufacturing tasks
- Use precision measuring tools such as calipers to ensure parts meet specifications
- Support machining processes using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment as needed
- Operate forklifts safely for material handling within the shop
- Assist in assembly processes following lean manufacturing principles to optimize workflow
- Maintain a clean and organized work area adhering to safety standards
- Support the team in troubleshooting mechanical issues related to Fanuc controls and other CNC systems
- Follow safety protocols including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge with experience in machining, assembly, and welding
- Familiarity with Fanuc CNC controls and programming is highly desirable
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, CAD files, and technical drawings using SolidWorks or similar software
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations during machining and assembly tasks
- Experience operating CNC lathe, CNC milling machines, and hand tools
- Ability to use calipers and other precision measurement instruments accurately
- Knowledge of manufacturing best practices including lean manufacturing principles
- Experience with forklift operation is preferred but not required
- Ability to work effectively with power tools, welding equipment, and hand tools
- Strong attention to detail, safety consciousness, and teamwork skills

Pay: $23.00-$30.00 per hour
