The Art Gallery of Sudbury / Galerie d'art de Sudbury is seeking a motivated and community-focused Bilingual (English/French) Program Coordinator to support the delivery of ElginStreetSpeaks: Seniors Creating Community through Art and Language, a visual arts and language integration initiative for refugee and immigrant senior newcomers.
Working closely with Gallery staff, community partners, artists, volunteers, and participants, the Program Coordinator will help ensure the successful planning, coordination, and delivery of inclusive arts programming that promotes social inclusion, language development, and community connection. The coordinator will play a key role in fostering a welcoming environment where seniors are empowered as active contributors, mentors, and cultural ambassadors.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate weekly project activities, teach and support workshops, and program logistics.
- Serve as a bilingual (English/French) point of contact for participants, artists, volunteers, and community partners.
- Assist with participant recruitment, registration, scheduling, and ongoing communication.
- Support newcomer seniors by helping facilitate communication during workshops and community events.
- Coordinate workshop materials, equipment, refreshments, and room set-up.
- Maintain attendance records and assist with collecting participant feedback and evaluation data.
- Support volunteer coordination, including scheduling and communication.
- Liaise with settlement agencies, senior-serving organizations, and community partners to promote participation.
- Assist with planning and coordinating the public exhibition and community celebration.
- Help prepare promotional materials and communications in both English and French.
- Ensure program activities are delivered in a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive manner.
- Perform other administrative and program support duties as required.
Qualifications
- Fluency in both English and French (spoken and written) is required.
- Education or demonstrated experience in visual arts, textile arts, printmaking, craft-based practices, or a related creative discipline is required.
- Experience coordinating community programs, arts and cultural programming, education, or social services is preferred.
- Experience facilitating or supporting hands-on visual arts workshops is considered a strong asset.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with seniors, newcomers, multicultural communities, or vulnerable populations is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff, volunteers, artists, and community partners.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard digital communication tools.
