Tooling Purchasing Coordinator – Manufacturing machining
Salary: $65,000,$85,000 – pending on experience
Metal machining manufacturing experience is a MUST 3-5 years experience
MAJOR ACTIVITES AND RESULTS:
- Tooling Procurement & Vendor Management
· Source, evaluate, and purchase production tooling, cutting tools, fixtures, gauges, consumables, and related manufacturing supplies from both domestic and international suppliers.
· Develop and maintain strong working relationships with approved vendors while identifying opportunities for cost savings, quality improvements, and enhanced service levels.
· Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations, negotiate pricing where appropriate, and ensure purchases align with established budgetary targets.
· Monitor supplier performance including quality, pricing, lead times, delivery reliability, and complete TDRs as required.
· Collaborate with vendors to resolve delivery issues, expedite urgent orders, and minimize production downtime.
· Coordinate the receipt, inspection, storage, and distribution of tooling and manufacturing supplies.
· Maintain accurate tooling inventory and implement inventory control practices to ensure optimal stock levels while minimizing excess inventory. Liaison with sales to ensure product forecasts support tooling purchases.
· Monitor tooling consumption and proactively replenish inventory based on production schedules and demand forecasts.
· Maintain organized, efficient, and safe tool room practices.
- Engineering & Manufacturing Support
· Partner closely with Engineering to identify tooling requirements for new product launches, process improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Provide technical recommendations regarding tooling selection, machining strategies, and material compatibility.
· Input and categorize new tooling into Navision
· Build and maintain accurate engineering tool BOM’s
· Establish and manage tooling procurement timelines to support customer delivery commitments and production requirements.
· Coordinate tooling orders to accommodate project milestones, engineering changes, and manufacturing priorities.
· Monitor critical lead times and proactively communicate potential delays or supply risks.
· Develop contingency plans to mitigate tooling shortages or supplier disruptions.
Experience
- 3–5+ years of experience in tooling procurement, tool room coordination, manufacturing engineering, machining, or industrial purchasing within an automotive or precision manufacturing environment.
- Experience supporting CNC/manual machining or precision manufacturing operations is strongly preferred.
- Experience working within a business-to-business manufacturing environment is an asset.
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of machining processes and tooling applications.
- Knowledge of cutting tools, work holding, fixtures, gauges, and precision measuring equipment.
- Understanding of manufacturing materials and material selection considerations.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, tooling specifications, and technical documentation including an understanding of GD&T.
- Ability to use various measuring instruments such as micrometer, calipers, optical comparator, bore gauges etc.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (Navision preferred), inventory management software, and Microsoft Office applications.
