The Team
The Provincial Field Services team delivers highway construction and rehabilitation projects across the province, including grading, paving, and emergency response work. The team works closely with contractors, government partners, Indigenous communities, and the public to coordinate safe and effective project delivery. The Role
The Field Services Assistant supports project delivery by assisting with inspections, measurements, quality assurance activities, materials testing, and related administrative tasks. The role involves travel to project sites across different locations to support field operations and coordinate with staff, contractors, and stakeholders during construction activities.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- A Civil Technology diploma plus 3 (three) years related experience; OR
- A related engineering degree plus 1 (one) year related experience; OR
- Grade 12 graduation or equivalent (GED) plus additional construction-related courses (survey, design, materials, hydraulics, blasting, asphalt, etc.) with a minimum of 5 (five) years related experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Valid Class 5 Motor Vehicle License and the provision of a drivers abstract.
- Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
Related Experience must include the following:
- Experience in road construction.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience working on paving and sealcoating projects.
- Field experience in highway construction.
- Experience in developing and managing paving and sealcoating contracts.
- Experience in developing and implementing Quality Management systems.
- Experience in resolving contentious issues with contractors, consultants, stakeholders, and outside agencies.
- Experience negotiating, applying and interpreting Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure specifications and contract documents.
Provisos
- Willing and able to complete a safety supervision certificate.
- Willing and able to work outside during periods of inclement weather and/or on rough terrain.
- Willing and able to travel throughout the Province of BC.
