About the Role
Solico Metal Inc. is seeking an experienced Welder/Fitter to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for fabricating, fitting, and welding structural steel and custom metal components while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in precision workmanship and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, fabrication drawings, and welding specifications.
- Fabricate, fit, and assemble structural steel and metal components with precision.
- Perform MIG (GMAW), FCAW, SMAW (Stick), and/or TIG welding as required.
- Produce high-quality welds in accordance with applicable CWB and CSA standards.
- Lay out, position, align, and secure components before welding.
- Operate fabrication equipment, including:
- Cutting torches
- Grinders
- Drill presses
- Band saws
- Other standard fabrication shop equipment
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality, dimensional, and safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) regulations.
- Work independently and collaboratively to meet production schedules and project deadlines.
Qualifications
- Journeyperson Welder certification, 3rd or 4th Year Apprentice status, or equivalent industry experience.
- Current CWB certification (SMAW, FCAW, and/or GMAW), or eligibility to obtain or renew certification.
- Minimum 2-5 years of welding and fitting experience in a fabrication or structural steel environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
- Experience with structural steel fabrication, fitting, and layout.
- Solid understanding of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) requirements.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and perform physically demanding work in a manufacturing environment.
- Must provide and wear CSA-approved personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toe boots.
Preferred Qualifications (Assets)
- Experience operating forklifts and/or overhead cranes.
- Pressure welding experience.
- Previous experience in an Alberta-based structural steel or manufacturing shop.
- Experience welding stainless steel and/or aluminum.

Hiring Process
A successful job-related Physical Demands Assessment (PDA) will be required following a conditional offer of employment, in accordance with company policy.
The assessment is directly related to the essential physical requirements of the position and is administered consistently for all candidates receiving a conditional offer.
Work Location: In person (In Shop 1 or Shop 2, based on operational needs)
