Healthy Skin Centre – Surgical Dermatology and Cosmetic Dermatology
Healthy Skin Centre is a state of the art dermatology centre specializing in Mohs micrographic surgery of skin cancer and cosmetic dermatology. We provide the gold standard treatment in skin cancer surgery as well as BOTOX® Cosmetic, Xeomin®, dermal fillers, varicose vein treatments, mole removal and advanced skin care.
We are located in New Westminster, but our patients come from all over British Columbia including Vancouver, Burnaby, Port Moody, Coquitlam, Surrey, Delta, and White Rock.

Our team currently has an opening for a permanent part-time Medical Laboratory Technologist with experience as a histology technician. The individual would be directly involved with our skin cancer patient’s care as well as management of the Mohs Surgery laboratory.
This is a permanent position from Tuesday to Friday. Start time is at 8 a.m. and end time is flexible - anywhere from 2 p.m to 4 p.m depending on the candidates interest and experience and/or need for flexibility.
There are no nights, evenings or weekend shifts.
Medical Laboratory Technologist and Histology Technician Job Description
The Medical Laboratory Technologist - Histology Technician will be responsible for the daily operation of a Mohs Surgery laboratory including preparing frozen section surgical specimens, managing inventory, maintaining specimen logs and following policies and procedures required by the Non Hospital Medical and Surgical Program and the Diagnostic Accreditation Program of British Colombia.
Responsibilities:
- Setting up the laboratory every operative day.
- Creating, managing and maintaining surgical specimen records.
- Preparing surgical specimens as directed by the Dermatologist and Surgeon.
- Scoring, dyeing, orienting, freezing, sectioning, staining, mounting, cataloguing and storing tissue on slides.
- Maintaining laboratory inventory
- Notifying the Director of Operations if equipment or supplies need to be repaired or re-ordered
- Cleaning laboratory and surgical areas including spills
- Managing laboratory waste including sharps and chemicals
- Reviewing and updating all HSC laboratory policies and procedures
- Assisting with accreditation of HSC laboratory following CPSBC NHMSFP and DAP criteria
Qualifications
- Education: Medical Laboratory Science Diploma preferred but Biology Bachelor or Health Sciences Bachelor with laboratory experience will be considered
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- One year of successful recent laboratory experience preferred
- One year of experience in histopathology preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Comfortable with frozen section specimen preparation: scoring, dyeing, orienting, freezing, sectioning, staining, mounting, cataloguing and storing tissue on slides.
- Comfortable using a cryostat
- Independent worker
- Strong organizational skills
- Stay updated on current laboratory practices and procedures
