Join our team as a Water Treatment Operator in Fredericton!
Are you passionate about ensuring clean and safe drinking water for our community? We’re looking for a dedicated Water Treatment Plant Operator to join our Engineering and Operations Department.
Reporting to the Water Treatment Plant Foreman, the Water Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for the efficient operation and maintenance of our city’s water supply and treatment facilities. The role encompasses everything from the City’s water supply to its treatment facilities and the distribution system.
Qualifications Required:
- Graduation from a Technology Diploma Program or postsecondary education in a waterworks related field, such as Red Seal certification in plumbing, electrical, pipe fitting, or power engineering certification.
- Candidates must have or be able to attain certification through a provincially administered program. The incumbent is expected to obtain their first level of certification for both Water Treatment and Water Distribution after their first year of employment and continue these levels as experience is accumulated.
- Valid NB Class V driver’s license.
- A clear Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check, as well as a clear Driver’s Abstract, are required as conditions of employment.
- Oral competency with French language skills considered an asset.
What You’ll Do:
- Water treatment and monitoring of the water quality as per the Canadian drinking guidelines.
- Operation and maintenance of wells, booster stations, reservoirs, pressure reducing valves, and related control and monitoring equipment. This may include climbing to significant heights and entering confined spaces.
- Operate and maintain the water treatment plants and related equipment (ph meters, turbidity meters, spectrophotometers, chlorine monitors, etc.)
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot various process control equipment.
- Maintain records, analyze system trends, computer data entry, and SCADA system operation and monitoring. Responding to customer service inquiries.
- Perform manual work with dexterity and competency as required.

- Ability to present reports in an efficient, and neat manner using both handwritten and computerized formats.
- Well-developed interpersonal and communications skills to be able to help the public and support the team.
- Ability to work within a scheduled staff rotation. Regular working hours are Monday to Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm with the ability to work after hours as required and being on call as part of a regular rotation with other Water Treatment Plant Operators.
- Ability to work shift work including a regular night shift if required.
